Cleankill Pest Control has been named a finalist in the sustainability category at the 2024 SME London Business Awards.
Organized by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, these awards recognise industrious, hardworking and enterprising small and medium businesses operating in the London region. They are open to all companies working in the London region who employ fewer than 250 people.
Sponsored by South Western Railway, the sustainability award recognises businesses that have made a positive impact in reducing the environmental footprint of their products and/or services.
Sustainability is integral to the way we work. We are constantly looking for better ways to do business that enable us to deliver effective pest control but in a way that is better for the environment.
Solutions include:
- Going paperless – field staff now us iPads to enable instant reporting to customers
- Targeted baiting – reducing our use of pesticides through better targeting such as using motion sensor cameras to detect where the problem is
- Non-chemical alternatives – electric bird repellent systems, traditional traps and LED fly killer units
- Natural pest control – using traditional methods, such as Harris hawks to deter birds, pheromone traps for moths and heat treatments for bed bugs
- Finding alternatives to petrol and diesel – moving to hybrid vehicles and employing two ‘foot technicians’
Cleankill Managing Director Paul Bates: “When Cleankill was founded in 1995, it was with an ethos of providing effective pest control with a reduced impact on our communities and the environment. I’m pleased to say, over the years we’ve led the way in making pest control more sustainable, often through small improvements that have made a big difference. Examples of this would include reducing our reliance on paper and finding alternative forms of transport.”
Over the years, Cleankill’s approach to ‘green’ pest control has been recognised at several local and national business awards, including the South London Business Awards (2013), Croydon Business Awards (2016), Gatwick Diamond Business Awards (2018 and 2020) and BPCA Member Awards (2023).
